Green Expo – Surf Ballroom, 460 N. Shore Dr. Clear Lake (641-357-6151). The regional Green Expo and Clear Lake Earth Day is a fun way to celebrate the arrival of Spring! Sample fresh local food, get started with your garden, learn about outdoor fun, how to cut your fuel bill or starting a career in wind turbine technology. Exhibitors include everything from landscapers, spa professionals, local food organizers, outdoor adventures, health consultants, artist, energy consultants, students and much more. Numerous local businesses will showcase their green products and representatives from local and statewide non-profits will be available. A complete list of vendors and other information is available on the website. The Green Expo is held from 4-7 pm.

Live Music: Kelly Zullo -  Fat Hill Brewing, 17 N. Federal Ave (641-423-0737). Kelly Zullo is a one-women band and acoustic guitar master based in Ohio. Those in the know call her a “musician’s musician”. Incorporating machine-gun acoustic guitar skills, live drumming and simultaneous ‘foot pedal bass’ Kelly takes the art of singer-songwriter to a new level. Free Event; must be 21+. Event time: 7 pm-9 pm.

Scratch Art (adult/teen class) – Charles H. MacNider Art Museum, 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). Explore the medium of scratch art on clay board. Learn to draw and shade in reverse with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. Event time: 5:30 pm-7:30 pm.  Fee: $20, members $18.


April 19-20 & 22, 2018

Quodlibet – NIACC Auditorium, 500 College Drive (641-422-4188) Annual variety show presented by the North Iowa Area Community College Choir and NIACC Singers; showcasing quality choirs, couples, quartets, and quintets crafting compositions that are quick, colorful, cunning, crafty and sometimes even a little quirky.  Thursday and Friday night 7:30 pm; Sunday 2 pm. Exhibit: Art of the 1940’s - Charles H. MacNider Art Museum (Kinney-Lindstrom Gallery), 303 2nd St. SE (641-421-3666). Viewers will be treated to forty artworks, from the Museum’s Permanent Collection, which were all created in the 1940s. Open during all normal operation hours of the Museum. Exhibit will be on display until May 23, 2018.

Earth Days Fest, 5K/10K & Trash Bag – City Park, Clear Lake. Get ready for some family fun and making a difference in Clear Lake. It’s easy for all ages to help with the Community Cleanup for part of the morning. And then enjoy the Fun Run, seeing wild critters close up, crafts, food, family games and more. Free paper shredding and electronics recycling is available too. Other events are held throughout the community in conjunction with Clear Lake Earth Days and National Earth Day. 100 Years in Iowa Architecture – Mason City Public Library, 225 2nd St. SE, (641-423-1923). Molly Naumann, an architectural historian, will present a presentation on Iowa architecture (1840s-1950). This multimedia presentation celebrates the diversity of Iowa architecture. Architectural treasures from around the state will be featured. Attendees will become more familiar with various styles of buildings represented in their own communities. Event time: 6 pm-7 pm. Free and open to the public. No Cost; donations appreciated.

Pallet Flag Workshop – Landfill of North Iowa Parking Lot, 15942 Killdeer Ave, Clear Lake (641-357-5452). Join the Mason City Earth Day Committee and the Landfill of North Iowa to create flags out of pallets. This fun and free workshop is a great way to meet new people, get creative and recycle something old into something new! Paint and pallets provided, but please bring your own paintbrush. Des Moines singer-songwriter Joshua Sinclair, one described as “Ryan Adams meets Ed Sharon”, will join Fat Hill Brewing for no-admission charge acoustic show. With songs ranging in styles from pop to alternative to crossover country, Sinclair is a seasoned musician, having toured for years and done work on no less than 14 albums. Free Event; must be 21+.  Event time: 7 pm-9 pm.
