SPRING CLEAN UP IN THE COMMUNITY
Spring is here and ‘Earth Day’ fever is in the air! It’s time to clean up the remnants of winter and make our neighborhoods sparkle by participating in community-wide spring cleaning! City of Mason City staff is encouraging residents to clean their properties by removing unwanted/unnecessary items from yards and raking leaves and grass in yards to help beautify the residential areas of our community.
A few reminders for residents to help in the cleanup of properties:
*Large, unwanted and junk items can be collected by the Sanitation Division year round by appointment only. Contact the Sanitation staff at (641) 421-3691 or visit the City’s website at www.masoncity.net (Residents tab) for information on placing large, unwanted items on the curb for collection by appointment. It will be required to specify what items will be picked up when the appointment is made. Once an appointment pick-up date is scheduled with the Sanitation Division, customers should place large items for pick-up at the curb by 7:00 am on the scheduled pick-up date.
*Yard Waste collection has resumed. Make sure yard waste bags are set on the curb by 7 am on your collection day. Bags are available at retailers throughout the City. For a list of retailers, contact the Sanitation Division at (641) 421-3691.
Code Enforcement Officers are out in the community looking for violations of the nuisance code so please clean up your property to avoid receiving a notice.
*Citizens can use a variety of options to report nuisances at locations and properties in the community.
- SeeClickFix is a communications platform for citizens to report non-emergency issues to City staff. The free mobile app is available for citizens to download to report exact locations of items such as weed notices, potholes, and other general nuisances throughout the City. The app is available on the City’s website at www.masoncity.net on the left side of the home page.
- Service Requests to report non-emergency issues to City staff can also be reported via the City’s website by clicking on the ‘Service Request’ button on the middle of the home page at www.masoncity.net. These requests are forwarded directly to the appropriate City department that deals with the service request. Most of the City departments are listed under the service requests.
All emergency issues should be directed to 9-1-1 immediately.
