6/1/20: Mayor's Emergency Proclamation Expires
May 27, 2020
MASON CITY, Iowa-Mayor Bill Schickel said today he is allowing the emergency proclamation issued more than two months ago to expire effective June 1, 2020.
Schickel’s March 17 proclamation prohibited gatherings of more than 10 on public property.
“I am doing this in order to accommodate open air dining and limited summer sports that have social distance guidelines,” Schickel said.
“Requirements from our local and state departments of health for open air dining are equivalent to my proclamation and offer better defined rules. Those rules include tables of 10 or less with observation of six foot social distancing. Also, the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa High School Athletic Association have created strong guidelines for restricted summer sports,” Schickel said.
“I strongly encourage residents to continue wearing masks or face coverings, follow all social distancing mandates and guidelines, and not let our guard down,” he said.
