Meet Our Staff

Brian Pauly, Superintendent of Recreation

Brian Pauly has served as the Superintendent of Recreation since 2012. As superintendent of Recreation, Brian oversees The Mason City Recreation Department, Mason City Multipurpose Arena, MacNider Campground, Highland Park Golf Course, Mason City Aquatic Center, and Mason City Community Gardens.

Dylan Hall, Recreation Programmer

Dylan Hall has been a part of the Mason City Recreation Department for many years. He started his role as Youth Sports Recreation Programmer in 2024. He is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating recreation programs for youth, including cultural arts, physical activities, sports, special interest classes and special events.

Meriel Johnson, Recreation Programmer

Meriel Johnson started her role as Aquatic and Activities Recreation Programmer in 2024. She is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating recreation programs for seniors, adults and youth; including cultural arts, physical activities, sports, daycare, and special interest classes and aquatic programming.

Nick Largent, Director of Golf and Recreation Special Event Coordinator.

Nick Largent started with the Recreation Department in 2019 and is currently the Director of Golf at Highland Park Golf Course as well as the Recreation Special Events Coordinator. He holds his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from New Mexico State University where he also received his PGA license while playing golf. He oversees all golf operation and services at Highland Park Golf Course. As Recreation Special Event Coordinator, Nick works closely with various community agencies to provide free and low cost community programs to the citizens of Mason City, Iowa.

Linda Hunt, Recreation Office Manager

Linda Hunt started her role as Recreation Office Manager in 2022. She holds an Associate of Science degree as an Administrative Assistant from North Iowa Area Community College. She works to provide administrative support to the Recreation Superintendent as well as the other members of the department. Linda is currently the coordinator of the Mason City Community Gardens as well as the Mason City Park Board Clerk.

Ethan McHenry, Multipurpose Arena Supervisor

Ethan McHenry started with the Mason City Multipurpose Arena in 2022. He is responsible for the daily operation of the Mason City Multipurpose Arena, the largest entertainment venue in North Iowa as well as coordinating ice events, concerts, trade shows, and sport events.

Eli McGallian, Golf Course Superintendent

Eli McGallian started as Golf Course Superintendent of Highland Golf Course in 2023. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Turf Management and a minor in Soil Science. He is a Class A Member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Eli is responsible for assisting the Director of Golf in the managerial, administrative, and supervisory work of all grounds-related functions at Highland Park Golf Course.
