The Mason City Fire Department provides
ALS ambulance service to Mason City, and most of Cerro Gordo County and Worth
County and has multiple mutual aid or tier agreements with other communities.
MCFD operates with three battalions consisting of 14 members that are
cross-trained as certified EMTs or Paramedics. Deputy Chief-EMS, Mitch Smith oversees ambulance services including the
extensive training required to maintain the Department's and firefighters'
certification levels. Dr. Matthew Schiller is the Department's Medical
Director and oversees the standards of service and training and medical
protocols which must be approved and implemented to high quality standards as
advocated by Dr. Schiller.
As a medical service provider, the Mason City Fire Department is bound by the
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
All records related to ambulance services are now protected
